What should I do about noise pollution?

At Colonies, we place great importance on well-being and tranquility in our residences. If you’re facing noise disturbances, it’s essential to act calmly and constructively.

🎯 Identify the source of the noise

Start by determining whether the noise is coming from:

  • Your housemates

  • Neighbors outside the residence

  • A technical issue (heating, plumbing, equipment…)

This step helps to find the appropriate solution.

🎉 If the noise comes from your housemates

  1. Encourage direct communication
Start a calm and respectful conversation with the person(s) involved. They may not even be aware they’re causing a disturbance.

  2. Remind them of the shared living rules
Respecting quiet hours, especially in the evening or at night, is part of our community living commitments at Colonies.

  3. Reach out to your Community Leader (if your residence has one)
They can help mediate the situation in a diplomatic way.

🏘️ If the noise comes from external neighbors

  1. Try talking to them directly

  2. If that’s not enough, take notes of the incidents (days, times, type of noise)

  3. Contact the appropriate authorities to have the noise officially recorded

  4. Contact us via your tenant space so we can consider next steps (contacting the building management, reporting the issue…)

📩 If the issue persists

Contact us via your tenant space with the following information:

  • The type of disturbance (loud music, shouting, late use of common areas, etc.)

  • The days and times concerned

  • Any attempts you’ve already made to solve the issue

We’ll quickly reach out to the parties involved to understand and help resolve the situation.

🚫 In case of severe or repeated disturbances

Colonies does not tolerate disrespectful behavior or recurring disruption of communal life. Formal warnings or stricter measures may be applied if respect for quiet and shared living is not restored.
