What insurance should I take out?

Home insurance is not included in your rental contract. You are therefore required to subscribe to your own home insurance before moving in.

🎯 What should your home insurance cover?

Your insurance contract must at least include the “rental risks” guarantee, which covers:

  • Fire

  • Water damage

  • Explosions

  • ...

Each tenant must cover their room and their share of the apartment. It protects against external damage or any damage you may cause as a tenant.

Examples:

If your flat is 100 m² and has 4 bedrooms, you should indicate your insurance company that it's 25 m² (100/4).

If your flat is 130 m² and has 6 bedrooms, you should indicate your insurance company that it's 22 m² (130/6).

⚠️ Failure to provide valid insurance may lead to contractual penalties (termination of lease, deductions from security deposit, etc.).

✅ What we recommend

To be better protected, we strongly advise you to also include the following:

  • Personal liability insurance: covers damages you may cause to others (inside or outside the accommodation)

  • Personal belongings protection: especially if you own valuable items (phone, electronics, clothes, jewellery, artworks…)

  • Other useful guarantees: some insurance plans also cover treatments for bedbugs, for example.
